The Strand is getting ready to rock as we gear up for the much anticipated Cooly Rocks On™ Festival from 7 – 11 June, featuring an exciting lineup of events happening right here at the centre.
 
From fashion to flicks, twirling and tunes, The Strand at Coolangatta is the place to be for all the action during the festival week.
 
Wednesday 7 June
 
Drop In Dance Workshops
When: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Where: Timezone Coolangatta, Level 1
 
Over three big days, dancers of all abilities can drop into Timezone Coolangatta and touch up their Rock ‘n Roll, Rockabilly, Swing and Balboa moves for just $10. Run by Gotta Swing, festival-goers can pop in to these dance workshops with no bookings required and learn from the best.
 
Cooly Rocks On™ Cinema – The Italian Job
When: 3:00pm
Where: BCC Cinemas Coolangatta, Level 2
 
In celebration of Cooly Rocks On™ coming to town, watch the 1969 classic, The Italian Job on the big screen at BCC Cinemas Coolangatta for just $10 per ticket.
 
Thursday 8 June

You will be dancing in your seat with a special viewing of the 1980 toe tapping flick, The Blues Brothers. Catch it at BCC Cinemas Coolangatta for one day only and for just $10 per ticket.

Swing Dancing Taster Sessions
When: 10:00 – 12:00pm
Where: The Atrium
 
Led by the crew at Swing Dance Gold Coast, this two hour session of free dancing will feature a beginner Swing class at 10am, followed by a Charleston Swing class at 11am. Participants will also have the opportunity to see some of the region’s best in action and these mini workshops will have you dancing in no time. Brought to you by My Ju Ju Dance Fever.
 
Rock 'n' Roll Dance Classes
When: 2:30 – 4:30pm
Where: The Atrium
 
Strap on your dancing shoes with the Tweed Border Rockers and join a one hour basic Rock 'n' Roll dance lesson followed by free Rock 'n' Roll social dancing in the Atrium.
 
Cooly Rocks On™ Cinema – Rebel Without a Cause
When: 3:00pm
Where: BCC Cinemas Coolangatta, Level 2
 
Showing for one day only, don’t miss the 1955 blockbuster, Rebel Without a Cause starring James Dean, on the big screen for just $10 per ticket.
 
Saturday 10 June
 
Retro Fashion Parade
When: 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:00pm
Where: The Atrium
 
Step back in time at the Retro Fashion Parade, exhibiting fashions of the era in 20 minute pop up fashion parades three times daily across the main weekend.
 
Miss Cooly Rocks On™
When: 2:00 – 4:00pm
Where: The Atrium
 
Miss Cooly Rocks On™ entrants will take to the stage from 2.00pm, being judged on originality, overall styling, presentation, crowd appeal and stage presence before one is crowned the winner.
 
Rock 'n' Roll Dance Classes
When: 4:30 – 6:30pm
Where: The Atrium
 
Strap on your dancing shoes with the Tweed Border Rockers and join a one hour basic Rock 'n' Roll dance lesson followed by free Rock 'n' Roll social dancing in the Atrium.
 
Cooly Rocks On™ Swing Pop Up
When: 6:00 – 9:00pm
Where: Level 1 Dance Space at the top of the travelators
 
Enjoy three hours of FREE swing dancing for an evening of fun for all ages and abilities. Normally held on the fourth Saturday of the month, this special edition is coming to town especially for festival-goers and locals looking to get into the swing spirit.
 
Sunday 11 June
 
The Cooly Rocks On™ Pinball Challenge
When: 9:30am – 3:00pm
Where: Timezone Coolangatta, Level 1
 
The 2017 Cooly Rocks On™ Pinball Challenge will take over Timezone Coolangatta for a day of competitive pinball action. The top four from each three heats will then battle it out at the 1:00pm final for the title of champion, with great prizes up for grabs. Entry is free and you can test your skills with a practice run on Saturday, with a special offer for entrants of 20 games for just $10. 
 
Retro Fashion Parade
When: 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:00pm
Where: The Atrium
 
Step back in time at the Retro Fashion Parade, exhibiting fashions of the era in 20 minute pop up fashion parades three times daily.
 
Shelley Minson
When: 2:30 – 3:00pm
Where: The Atrium
 
Pin up girl and Rockabilly starlet, Shelley Minson, will be entertaining the masses with her 50s and 60s inspired Rockabilly tunes for an unmissable half hour set in the Atrium.
