3 Ways to Make the Most of In-Season Strawberries

Strawberries are in abundance this Spring and we are loving it! The versatile berry is bursting with goodness and can be used in so many ways – as well as munching them fresh from the punnet, they are the perfect topper for summery sweets, make the best jam and are even a great addition to savoury salads.
Here are three creative ways to make the most of sensational, in-season strawbs, with punnets on special right now at Strand Fresh Fruit on Level 1.

Strawberry Kebabs
Keep the kids busy with some fun fruit kebab making! Wash, destem and slice strawberries in half lengthways, then thread the strawberry halves onto bamboo skewers, adding 4 or 5 pieces onto each skewer. For added colour, pop a blueberry in between each strawberry half.
Little fingers should be supervised. Suitable for ages 8 and up.

Strawberry Mojito
Combine the fresh flavours and strawberry and mint for the ultimate spring cocktail. In a tall glass, muddle 3 strawberries and a small handful of mint leaves with 1 teaspoon of simple syrup, add 30 mL of lime juice and 1 shot of white rum or Bacardi and stir. Fill a mason jar with ice, pour in the strawberry mixture and top with soda water. Garnish with extra mint leaves and strawberry slices. Ask the team at Cooly Liquor for their favourite variations on this recipe!
TOP TIP: Head to Nic Nax Discount Variety on the Ground Level to grab jars and paper straws to spruce up your cocktails!

Strawberry banana bread muffins
Make healthy, snack-size muffins to have on hand for morning or afternoon tea or pop them in the freezer to grab and go for lunchbox treats.
Add 200g of sliced strawberries to your favourite banana bread recipe. Divide the mixture evenly into a 12-hole muffin tin, then top each with a strawberry slice before baking.
A springtime twist on a classic favourite!
