The Melbourne Cup is known as “the race that stops a nation” and one of the most famous thoroughbred horse races in the world. While it’s a public holiday only in Victoria, it’s common for many individuals and businesses around Australia to stop during the race for an afternoon of food, excitement, and celebration. If you’re located in Coolangatta or visiting the area on Cup Day, you can still join in the excitement at one of the many events happening in and around the locale.
 

The Coolangatta Hotel

 

You can barrack for your horse on Cup Day at the Coolangatta Hotel as this local favourite will be hosting a special Melbourne Cup Day event. The day will be styled as a Cup party by the beach and is scheduled for an early start at 7:00 am. Featuring big screens and speakers, the hotel will of course be offering full TAB facilities, along with sweeps and raffles for attendees.

 

Guests will enjoy the atmospheric outdoor beer-garden, a range of tasty bar snacks, platters of delicious food, and live entertainment after the race. Entry includes a three course meal and sparkling wine upon arrival. The tickets to the Coolangatta Hotel event are priced at $59 each.

The Kirra Sports Club is an atmospheric local sports club situated on Appel Street, and it will be hosting a formal Melbourne Cup luncheon starting at 11:00 am on the day. There will be prizes for the best dressed attendees, and live music from 2:00 pm. The event will feature big screens and the club is offering a courtesy bus service to guests who need to have transportation arranged for them. Tickets are $69 each.

The Coolangatta Sands Hotel will be hosting its own Melbourne Cup Day celebration luncheon this year. There will be sweeps and full TAB facilities, so you can make your bets with ease. Prizes on the day will include best fashion on the field and best headpiece. Tickets are $35 each.

Held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, the luxurious Centre of Melbourne Cup event starts at 11:30 am. Attendees will enjoy Moet and Chandon upon arrival, followed by a four course lunch and a premium beverage package. The event will be hosted by Galey and Charli from Sea FM, and guests will enjoy a spring-summer fashion parade by Robina Town Centre.

 

The event will also feature live entertainment and music, a Moet bar, and race-day sweeps. Entry tickets to this premium event are priced at $145 per person or $1,400 per table of ten.

Currumbin RSL will be hosting several great luncheons on Cup Day at Alleys Restaurant and Waterside Event Rooms.

 

The Waterside luncheon will include a decadent buffet, and the entry ticket covers Barefoot sparkling wine on arrival. Starting at 11:30 am, the event will feature giant screens and live entertainment by Smooth and Grove. There will be lucky door and best dressed prizes, along with lots of sweeps. Guests can take advantage of the TAB downstairs and the Deck Creekside Café, which is fitted out with three TAB betting terminals. Tickets cost $75 for members and $85 for non-members.
