Strand Stories – Philippa King, Olive & Vern

Owner of Olive & Vern, Philippa King, has created one of Coolangatta’s must visit fashion stores, attracting customers of all ages to her stylish boutique located on the Ground Level at The Strand.

Stocking the latest fashions trending right now, Olive & Vern also offers customers styling advice – a service that is increasing in demand.

“We find that a lot of women out there are crying out for help to style themselves – and this is where we can add to their experience of shopping with us,” says Philippa. “One of our staff members, Beth, who has a background as a stylist, is in the store four days a week and loves more than anything than to style all these girls who are looking for help.”

With a tasteful eye for what’s on trend, you can be guaranteed Philippa will find the styles her customers are chasing.

“Customers are always coming into the store after they see our products online, because they’ll know we will more than likely have it in stock and usually for less than they would pay online.

“We have young and old come into the store, and although it has a younger feel to it, there’s something for everyone.

Philippa says the trends to look out for during the upcoming Autumn/Winter season will be florals, nudes and denim. “Vegan leather jackets will always be a winter staple and this winter will be pink nudes and, of course, black. Oversized denim jackets will still be around for a little longer yet.”

Being in the heart of Coolangatta, Philippa also shares a sense of community and helps to assist local community clubs with causes close to her heart. “I’ll often be approached by local community clubs to donate a voucher or support their fundraising efforts, and it is one of the most rewarding things as a business owner to be able to contribute to the local community in this way. Our door is always open.”
