, performing at The Strand on Saturday 30 April from 2pm. Voice Weavers are an a cappella choir specialising in popular, contemporary music. A non-auditioned community choir from the Gold Coast/Tweed area, Voice Weavers was established in 2005. All singers learn their parts at home and attend weekly rehearsals so they can all perform without holding any music.
A mixed choir of 45+ members, ranging in age from 7 to 80+, they've sung at a wide range of events up and down the coast. Performances include their own concerts, as well as shows they've been invited to perform in, such as the Bleach Festival, Burleigh Heads Carols by Candlelight, the Tweed River Lantern Festival and many others. Voice Weavers have also performed overseas, starting with a singing tour to China to coincide with Expo 2010 and followed by an international choir competition in Vietnam, in 2013, where they were awarded two silver medals. Voice Weavers Choir will soon be appearing on the world stage – literally – through their participation in the World Choir Games in Sochi, Russia, in July; the largest choir competition in the world. The 2014 games – held in Riga, Latvia – saw 27,000 people from 73 countries competing at the 11-day event!
At Sochi, they'll be competing in the Scenic Pop/Show Choir section and the Folklore A Cappella section of the Open Competition. They'll also appear in a Friendship Concert performance and with the Festival Stage Choir for the Great Celebration concert. And as the only Australian choir to register for the event, they’ll be representing Australia!
