The Gold Coast’s largest arts and cultural event, Bleach Festival
, brought a whirlwind of activity to Coolangatta, entertaining the local community with a variety of eye-popping antics and events.
The event kicked off with an opening party
held at The Strand on 6th March. Attended by the who’s who of the Gold Coast, including VIPs from our local and state governments, the exclusive event was hosted in the Level 1 Dining Precinct
with catering by hatted restaurateur Daniel Ridgeway and his team at Bin 72
Festivalgoers were warned to ‘expect the unexpected’, and Bleach didn’t disappoint. On Sunday 8th March, customers at The Strand were treated to a dazzling performance by the Fish-out-of-Water
, a giant 10-metre mullet created by ERTH, one of Australia’s leading contemporary performance companies. The visual spectacle made its 17-day journey across the Gold Coast and Hinterland, enchanting all who saw the giant fish skilfully operated by nine puppeteers.
The entertainment continued as The Strand hosted a Fire Twirling
competition at Coolangatta Beach. With Australia's best Fire Twirling troupes battling it out for the $1500 first prize, competition was fierce and the audience were treated to a night of choreographed fire dancing with big flames, fast spinning and impressive fire tricks. With side shows of local entertainment, music and circus acts, it was a great night for the whole family.
