The Gold Coast's legendary ocean swim returns to Coolangatta Beach on Sunday 3 April 2016. Sign up for the Cooly Classic to be a part of Australia's ultimate swim challenge.
Whether you've a first-time ocean swimmer or eager to beat your personal best, swimmers of all ages are welcome in the Cooly Classic, which includes a range of events to suit every participant's abilities. New for 2016 is 3.0-kilometre marathon course, offering a fresh challenge for experienced ocean swimmers and budding triathletes. What are the events?
The Cooly Classic takes place on Sunday 3 April from 8:00am to 12:30pm at three of the Gold Coast's top surf breaks – Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta Beach and Kirra Beach. Shuttle buses depart from Marine Parade to the starting point of 2K and 3K races at 9:45am.
The Cooly Classic features swim series for all ages and abilities, including:
- Junior Giants – Younger swimmers aged 8 to 16 can choose between the 300-metre Kids Dash (8 to 16 years) or longer 1000-metre Junior Giants (10 to 16 years). Events begin at 11:50am and 12:15pm.
- Cooly 1000 – The shortest adult course at 1km, the Cooly 1000 runs from Coolangatta to Kirra Beach and is the ideal option for newcomers. Begins 11:45am.
- Cooly Classic 2.0 – The most popular event of the day, this 2km course from Snapper Rocks to Kirra Beach via Rainbow Bay, Greenmount and Coolangatta challenges even the strongest ocean swimmers. Begins 10:30am.
- Cooly 3.0 – If 2km isn't enough of a challenge, join the swimming elite and compete for cash prizes in the new 3km marathon distance course which extends beyond Kirra Point. Begins 10:15am.
The day also includes stretch yoga and Pilates exercises to warm up your swimming muscles and safety briefings for every event. What are the prizes?
As if completing these challenging courses isn't satisfying enough, swimmers can also compete for cash and vouchers in every event.
1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the Junior Giants, Cooly 1000 and Cooly Classic 2.0 events take home Speedo product vouchers, while participants in the 3km marathon distance course can chase prizes of $500 and a trophy for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd. How do I sign up?

General entry fees are $24.50 for Junior Giants events ($35.00 on the day), $44.50 ($55.00) for the Cooly 1000, $49.50 ($60.00) for the Cooly Classic 2.0 and $54.50 ($65.00) for the Cooly 3.0.
If you're planning to take part in multiple events, you can save by signing up for packages. Enter both the 1.0km and either a 2.0km or 3.0km course for $69.50 ($80.00 on the day), and both Junior Giants events for $29.50 ($40.00).
